Okay, so you were all right…

Pattern: Print o’the Waves
Yarn: 100g Posh Yarn Cecila (50% cashmere 50% silk) in Ivory
Needles: 2mm (addi turbos - lovely)

I didn’t believe you but it is true the blocking process is miraculous. My Print o’the Waves stole is finished and I can’t describe to you how pleased I am with it. Last week I was very disheartened, I couldn’t see how what I had made could ever look good. I truly thought that I had wasted the last two months knitting this. But here it is and it is beautiful, I know that sounds conceited but I am just so surprised and pleased that I am letting myself be quite boastful about this!

The stole is feather-light and stirs in the breeze but the shaped edging still looks so crisp and sharp. I am very grateful to Eunny for providing this incredibly well written pattern on her website and I will definitely be knitting it again, although the next one I’m planning to make is lace weight rather than cobweb weight as my eyes need a rest from the 2mm needles.

Anyway, that is enough boasting from me, here is a last picture of the stole all packaged up and ready to send to Jo as an engagement present. By the way does anyone know what sort of care instructions I should give with this? I’ve only ever given knitted gifts to family before and I tend to end up washing those myself!

Well done! You must have so much patience to knit that, and it's turned out beautiful. Your photo is lovely, too. How did you block this? I'm always interested to hear about these things.

You mentioned a ribbon halter top in my blog comments. I tried knitting one of those (from Knitty, I think). What a disaster. Never again. And the ribbon. Yuk. Did yours come out wearable?

Ribbon yarn is just terrible. I think I must have been coming over a bit fashionista! It was a white top from an R2 magazine and it might have been wearable on a 16 year old fashion model.

I soaked it for about an hour and then blocked it on an old mattress with lots and lots of pins - it took ages to get it right!

Thanks Kendra. I have been moaning about us still having Charlie's old cot mattress in our workshop (shed!). Now I must ensure it stays there, as it may be useful.

I will try some fancy, skinny lace soon.

That is gorgeous! You did a lovely job of it. Isn't it great how delicate it turns out after you block it? I'm glad you are happy with the results - I was a little worried for you. That is such a nice engagement present, too. :) You will have to make one for yourself.

That is really gorgeous, I'm sure the lucky recipient will love it!

As for care instructions, I guess it's along the lines of hand wash/cool water, do not wring, dry flat, reshape whilst damp. I imagine since it has been so well blocked it would flatten out to shape more easily in subsequent washing.

Wow, that's amazing! I've been thinking about this pattern myself, but I prefer rectangular shawls. Great job! ^^

That is gorgeous! Really stunning :o

In the past I've sometimes given the recipient of a knitted gift the ball band with the washing instructions on.

I wish I had that sort of patience.

That looks so wonderful - isn't lace amazing! I don't think you're conceited at all. I still think my mum's shawl I made (now sadly lost from our world but possibly at the bottom of her wardrobe) is amazingly beautiful and I can't quite believe I made it and that it actually wasn't that tricky. Your friend will be thrilled!

Wow, what a shawl! I don't think I would be able to bear parting with it! And so much patience to block it all!

That is absolutely beautiful!

For care instructions I would put in a little hand written label with the stole, as this ends to look nicer than the ball band.

The shawl looks gorgeous and you have every right to be proud!!!! I Love Craft Lit too!!! I'm a bit behind at the moment but I love the way she talks about the book and also she really has a lot of good stuff to discuss before hand that makes it worth listening to her instead of downloading from Librovox!
