Extremely low knitting content - sorry

After seeing myself in recent photographs I finally braved the hairdressers this week -(I’ve included a picture as my Mum checks my blog and I know she will be interested).

I don’t like going to the hairdressers because, for me, it is jinxed - I don’t know why or how but it is. Take this occasion: I’m pleased with my haircut; the salon is really convenient and in the building next to where I work; and the guy who cut my hair was very pleasant. ‘Great!’ you might think but it isn’t - I can’t ever go back! Somewhere in our conversation the hairdresser became convinced I’d said I lived in Devon (my parents do and I grew up there but I don’t live there now). Anyway, he then asked me what I was doing in London and rather than put him right, as any normal person might do, I ended up telling him a complicated tale about how my husband was on business in London and I was accompanying him on holiday. I don’t know why I did it as now I can’t really go back. It isn’t just me, once my husband spent 6 months with our next door neighbour calling him Ralph because he didn’t want to put him right.

That wasn’t it in terms of my jinxed haircut, the taps stopped working mid shampoo and they had to finish me off with a bucket, the guy decided to straighten my hair for free because he wasn’t busy and I was on holiday and didn’t have to rush off (I was actually on my one hour lunch break and getting pretty stressed) and there was the fateful moment as I left when the hairdresser held up a scruffy looking brush and asked whether I wanted it. “It isn’t mine” I said in a confused tone - but it turned out it was a clothes brush…

Oh well on the bright side the second panel of Print O’the Waves is nearly finished so I should be able to start on the border soon. Also look at my great handbag. My brother bought me the bag (he is the one who keeps leaving the odd comments…at least I hope he is!)

The hairdresser story is hilarious!

Just looked at your picture of "River" as it's one I want to make this summer, yours looks beautiful :-)

Oh, that's laugh-out-loud funny. The bit about the brush....hahaha!

But, you call that a photo of a haircut????? Looks good from the glimpse I have but it's slightly....concealed.

At least you didn't think you had crispy leaves stuck in your hair and then realised that what your fingers were feeling was melted hair, due to having told the hairdresser you hadn't dyed your hair, when really you'd bleached it several times and then just dyed it back to brown.... That's what a root perm did for me back in the 80's.

Look, my hairdresser thinks I'm from Oxford, despite telling him 100 times that is not the case. Just go back there next time and look at him like he is so mistaken, when he asks how Devon is at present.

By the way, I have been cutting my bob myself for over a year. If I wear it messy, nobody knows.

Why is it that hairdressers fill lots of us with fear? Up until two years ago I'd only ever been to the hairdressers three times in my life - but then I decided I wanted my hair cut a bit shorter and I had to bite the bullet. Unsurprisingly it wasn't as bad as I feared, but they still instill a sense of dread in me!

Hairdressers, yeah...
Last time I went to cut my hair a bit and get an easy-to-care-for fringe, I went out with a perfect hair-do that lasted like... 40 minutes? Because in the wind and sun my hair started to get curly again, and moreover he cut my hair considerably, and the fringe was a really odd looking one, unregular, covering half of my face completely!...
So, after I came home, I washed my hair, took scissors and corrected the situaion! ^^
I've always wanted to have my hair staightened permanently, but I wondered: how permanent is that? Until the third washing?... Must check that.

I can completely understand your hairdresser story. I'm scared of going back to my usual hairdresser because I lied to him when I said I like the cut, when it was horrible! I must find a new hairdresser and face my fear head on!
